The Justice League goes on a deep space mission with the Lanterns just as aliens try to take over the Watchtower.
Doctor Damian Home Alone’s the Watchtower.
Damian was finishing up some medical evaluations or synthesizing a new anesthetic/antidote on the Watchtower when the League left for their mission. He noticed the moment their communications got cut off from Earth and pulled the silent alarm that would alert the other civilian medical staff to rally at their assigned defensible locations. Next, he rattled off Batman’s codes for a lockdown and began the tried and true Batfam method of setting traps.
All of the equipment is in lockdown. He has sections of the tower where he’s shut off the gravity. When he’s able to with the internal sensors he begins scanning the aliens and finds out they’re sensitive to noise/light/temperature and wreaks havoc on the environmental controls. He sets trip wires and stun grenades and glue traps. Some doors are wide open and will automatically close and lock behind intruders. He leaves specific consoles active to determine what they’re looking for or what the plan is and then sends a power surge through it to electrocute them. He picks off the invaders one by one and runs a bioscan to synthesize an equivalent knockout gas to flood the tower.
Damian is the tower’s last line of defense.
#batman#batfam#damian wayne#batfamily#damian al ghul#doctor damian wayne#seriously i think damian should be able to pull off some crazy traps on the watchtower#or if the league is ever mind controlled or body swapped he enacts certain protocols#he isn’t listed as an active hero/vigilante in the databases and is considered a civilian#if aliens hack their files they never see him listed as a potential target#i think that even if he never uses his skills how he used to he still keeps with his training to an extent because there are plenty of#people he could be used as leverage against. or have to help in a pinch. and this just means he’s always in fighting form#do i think he has a suit somewhere? body armor of some kind that bruce stashed for him just in case? maybe#he’s like a ‘in emergency break glass’ kind of fighter

I keep seeing this around and... Bro, Paint Tool Sai IS NOT a free application. It's around 52usd pay once and never again.
Buying license for Paint tool sai 1 gives you access for paint tool sai 2, without need to buy a new license.
It's a very ok price for an app that's great and offer so much, and is evolving (even though slowly), beginner friendly and all.
It SEEMS free cuz it's been pirated to hell and back, but it's not.
#go pirate adobe and stuff that's actually evil#idk man i don't think sai deserves it#it's not activelly selling your art to databases to train AI#and it's a hella nice app#i am NOT JUDGING you if you ahve a pirate version#i also DO NOT CARE if people passes the links to crack it an and all#like#piracy isn't the issue here#people saying it's free then complaining why sai 2 is never finished#idk it's probably not as big as it seems#it just bugs me

"Coxswains don't have to be strong, but they have to be willing to take an awful beating. They have to hold the tiller lines tight, which gives them shooting pains in the arms, and the boat sort of kicks them in the pants every time the oars bite into the water for a new stroke.
“Moch trains seriously along with the rest of his crew. 'More or less voluntarily,' he says, 'for the principle of the thing.' He has a varsity letter in fencing, too. He never sang in the glee club, in spite of his fine bass; has an 'absolute monotone.’

I wanted to do the 100 favourite films game that I saw half my dash doing, but the moment I tried, I immediately felt as though I had never seen a single film in my whole entire life. Everything I had ever enjoyed went out of my head. Thus, the obvious solution: books!
(I suspect there of being quite a lot of recency bias in this list - I've read several of these for the first time within the past three years - but I do really love them all...)
(Anyone expecting me to believe that they have read all 100 of my favourite books should prepare a short explanation for how and why they came to read a) a comprehensive history of British council housing and b) a short series of essays about the Beeching cuts. Also, that person should prepare for us to be best friends forthwith).
#actually i think the 'the trains now departed' and 'municipal dreams' overlap is probably pretty big#it's the venn diagram of those readers with 'the psychology of time travel' & 'business as usual' fans that i find harder to swallow#not included: two books that weren't in their database and that i couldn't work out how to add#(the good god & christ our life - both by mike reeves - both wonderful!)#every author gets a maximum of two books in this list so that it isn't all murder mysteries and pg wodehouse#except cs lewis who gets three by cheating (writing fiction and nonfiction)#it looks like i have three jeeves books but that's because i number sebastian faulks' lovely fanfic sequel among my faves#anyway! if you have the time and inclination to make your own list then you should do that#it is tremendous fun#*chidi anagonye voice* my soulmate will be... Of those who went to Playful Land, Vil came out of it with a surprising aversion to all things puppets. And a constant Urge to scratch at the right side of his face, fearful of feeling wood rooted in there rather than human skin. Even months afterward, he'd still feel a certain ick when dealing with anything related to puppets and will have a blatantly obvious fear response to finding even stray sticks in his hair.
He wasn't really able to stomach having ribbons on his wrists or even wearing harnesses for commercial or modeling gigs he did that year for a bit either. He'd tossed the clothes from Playful Land in the back of the Film club's costume shed, as he didn't want them to go to waste even still. He'd even asked the other's willing to give theirs up to store them in there too. He doesn't think he would be able to use them for anything, though, as just the idea of wearing that ensemble again is Abhorrent to him. Even the mere thought of Epel try one on left him feeling nauseous.
#hc; vil#//Couldn't sleep alone for a bit. Stayed w Rook bc if he woke up in a Panic; Rook would be THE ideal person to calm him & not judge or pry#//Ace and Jack in particular also left with a bad impression of the place; even if grudgingly admitting Some of it was fun#//Not that they'd Ever want to go through all THAT again; they both swore on it & to Never let the other Freshies get such ideas either#//Both also 100% had their fair share of scolding from actually scratching at their faces where the masks were rooted in#hc; ace (twst)#hc; jack (twst)#//Kalim thought it was fun; tho he did feel a familiar numbness over it for weeks after; the same way he usually did after being kidnapped#//Naturally; he didn't tell Jamil or anybody else that; bc to him it was another experience he had to suck up and bear like always#hc; kalim#//Floyd and Jade both were more amused by the peril they experienced; and even told Azul in great detail how they actually fretted over#never seeing him again; had Fellow been successful in turning them all into puppets and selling them off to the highest bidder#//They have no idea why Azul of all people got more stressed about that than they were#hc; jade (twst)#hc; floyd#//Ortho came out of it adding Fellow's personality & motivations to his database and learning to be more conniving out of it; so he's chill#//Though now he Also knows a great deal about experiencing 'fear' than he ever had before. It's just puzzling!#hc; ortho#//Leo; like Vil; ended up utterly unable to think back to his time at Playful Land as fun; considering Everything#//And likewise does also scratch at his face a little on occasion; tends to dig his claws into his skin more though#//As if he's actively feeling for any remnants of wood to be buried deep in there; and to ground himself that there aren't#//For him in particular; he got terrible episodes of sleep paralysis for weeks after; forced back into the feeling of his body stiffening#//He of course fronts everything is okay; but he Hates the feeling that he actually wound up more affected by it than he'd care to admit#//Esp considering Jack was in danger--that's the part that GOT to Leona the most. Even kept a careful eye on the lad more afterward too#hc; leona#//Lils brushed it off like nothing; considering his life experiences. More than anything; he felt guilty in not being able to DO much to#prevent the youngins from being taken or frightened by the experience; since he'd gotten captured so early on#//He did try to check in on everyone after with the subtlety of a freight train; but didn't exactly Pry further when refused#//Not like he has any better coping mechanisms than the others do; he'd take their words of handling things themselves as truth#hc; lilia

A series of news:
The bad: I am ill for the next week or so.
The good: feels like a remarkably mild cold. I’d be out doing things if I had ways to make sure others won’t catch this.
The grey area: I recently had the thought that I almost wish I had worse symptoms about this because then I could be fucking up Google’s ai training by writing the wildest fever-induced fanfics I can think of into google drive, and now I’m kinda sad about it
#this post serves as a reminder that covid is still an issue#and also I will very happily endorse poisoning a database used to train generative ai#especially if the database largely consists of stolen works#make the damn things nigh unusable

#you know the regular kind#also this database is so shit#it uses LLMs to scrape data from books to associate smells with feelings and qualities etc#99% of smells have the same vague descriptions like perfumed scented odorous fragrant#which is a shame bc the project in general seems really interesting#and some parts seem to be well done at least at a glance#it really just feels like they had to hop on the ai train to get funding

getting like a month's worth of emails done today and realizing why people think i'm so busy all the time. if you count all the sub-areas i'm responsible for like they should, as entire categories unto themselves, i think i have easily double the # of my coworkers. and i'm BORED
#work woes#website design. database redesign. reporting crosswalk. other reporting crosswalk. strategic development. training 1. training 2. training#four top level categories. six subcategories that are sometimes an entire health plan. and they dont even know abt the minecraft addiction

when I "finish" a query but it takes more than 10 seconds to load I just tell people it doesn't work yet until I can optimize it lol cause the only reason anything would run that slow is if I messed something up wrong
#much of our databases are undocumented and I dont think anyone in dev is totally aware of what's going on in there#given how many times ive had to explain fundamental issues back to them + send tickets when they break things#so there are plenty of times im working blind esp given that i was not trained and learned things on my own time#also im asked to do weird stuff that we might not have the data for so it's a trial and error game lol#err technically the databases have limited and outdated notes on select few columns in select few tables#but enough notes are incorrect or so incomplete that they are basically lies so I do not count that shit

It's annoying that MDL has now two pages for cut and uncut version of a drama.
It does kinda make sense but is also unnecessary. It messes my lists up 🙈 especially when they make the second page when a drama is over and all the pics and comments, voting etc are on the cut version page already.
#mydramalist#make it make sense for once in a while#but that train already left on that page for so many things...#haste that it is the most popular asian drama database#for how messy it is operated and administrated

Why Use Java Interface?
An interface in Java is a blueprint of a class. It has static constants and abstract methods. There are three reasons due to which interface is used.

For real, fuck my high school. I should sue them for all the bullshit I had to put up with. They worked me dry, criticised me at every step, made me feel unwelcome because I was AFAB......... man, fuck all that shit
#there were decent people on the staff of course#the Polish teacher? I would die for that woman#she actually arranged for accomodations during the speaking part of my Polish matura#were it not for her I wouldn't have passed#the maths teacher? I would also die for her#she was an angel. Sure she assigned so much stuff for the winter break and made us attend extra classes during said break#but she was so dedicated and patient#she was even giving us secret classes during the teacher strike before our matura#I guess my homeroom teacher was fine.#the databases teacher was funny and I talked to him about Fallout a few times#oh yeah the student counselour is another person I'd die for#were it not for her I would have never gotten help with my depression and I'd probably be dead#still#everyone else? either did nothing to help or actively contributed to the problem#fuck the headmaster most of all though#I want to go into his basement and steal all his goddamn model trains

OMG yes
It's not that I think that it's a-ok for AI to steal everything around it willy-nilly, but I really think that the current AI problem is about AI's practical aspects than a moral issue. I mean, tools and techniques are (most of the time, exceptions apply!!) relatively neutral in their existence, we are the ones giving it meaning and value. We are the ones that decide the good (cooking) and the bad (killing) use of a knife. And we are the ones who decide when the bad use might not be that bad ('citizen killing another citizen in a street' vs 'soldier killing another soldier in a war').
To me, the AI issue is a "it's not 'we' who are giving it meaning and purpose, it's a small group of people who barely even know how it works and are only interested in the profits it may or may not bring".
In a way, since AI is an intelligence that adapts with time, training it is a bit like raising a pet, isn't it? I would prefer that my pet is raised by me and people I trust, not handed to me pre-trained by a guy who has a record of using pets to steal wallets, and being required to hand it over to that guy's pet daycare every day for 'updates in the training'. Hm-hm, wallet-stealing guy, it's not suspicious at all.
ed zitron, a tech beat reporter, wrote an article about a recent paper that came out from goldman-sachs calling AI, in nicer terms, a grift. it is a really interesting article; hearing criticism from people who are not ignorant of the tech and have no reason to mince words is refreshing. it also brings up points and asks the right questions:
if AI is going to be a trillion dollar investment, what trillion dollar problem is it solving?
what does it mean when people say that AI will "get better"? what does that look like and how would it even be achieved? the article makes a point to debunk talking points about how all tech is misunderstood at first by pointing out that the tech it gets compared to the most, the internet and smartphones, were both created over the course of decades with roadmaps and clear goals. AI does not have this.
the american power grid straight up cannot handle the load required to run AI because it has not been meaningfully developed in decades. how are they going to overcome this hurdle (they aren't)?
people who are losing their jobs to this tech aren't being "replaced". they're just getting a taste of how little their managers care about their craft and how little they think of their consumer base. ai is not capable of replacing humans and there's no indication they ever will because...
all of these models use the same training data so now they're all giving the same wrong answers in the same voice. without massive and i mean EXPONENTIALLY MASSIVE troves of data to work with, they are pretty much as a standstill for any innovation they're imagining in their heads
#ai#ai critique#capitalism#I'll forever claim that if I had my own piece of AI that I could train just with open data and my own data I'd get it#because *I* get to determine which parts of my creative process I want to engage with and which ones are chores#if you think I wouldn't get it to help me draw the same character and backgrounds 100 time in a comic you are mistaken#but I would still do or redo whatever I don't think is working up to erasing everything and redoing by hand#you know - how we already use graphic software#it's important I'd train it with my own data and transparency with its training database would be important of course#I'd even buy training data if I thought it would improve what I want and the person is willing to sell#but all of this pipe dream is conditioned to “is it possible? and feasible? in this year of our lord 2025?”#and sadly I think it's not yet - we still have a lot to do and dismantling capitalism is one of them

The bad people are fighting and somehow this is bad. Eugh.
#midjourney vs Disney#people really do think that AI generation is just like human creativity and I cannot#your brain isn't a database#and fair use is not being challenged#rhis is the same as rhibking chat gtp is sapient isn't it#regulating what an AI can include in it's training data doesn't regulate what humans can produce as an act of creativity
